ATHENS – Shirley James Wilson, 63, of Athens, died Saturday morning, February 18, 2017 at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital. Born April 10, 1953 in Athens, she was the daughter of William H. (Wanda) Wilson of Nelsonville and the late F. Jean Tryon Wilson. She was a 1971 graduate of Athens High School and was a loving mother and grandmother, always attending their activities. She also loved country music, going to concerts and was an avid NASCAR and Reds fan. Besides her father, she is survived by two daughters, Angela (Tyler) Schloss of Athens, Shannon James of Athens; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Carl, Emily, Elise Scott, Brandon James; a sister, Linda (Richard) Baysa of Powell; a brother, William R. Wilson of Athens; and her longtime companion, Greg Platt of Athens. Besides her mother, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Sidney Belle Scott. A memorial service will be Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 4:00 PM at The Plains United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Flinn officiating. Dinner will follow the service at the church.
