Virginia “Ginny” H. Weiss, 94, of Guysville, Ohio, formerly of Seville, Florida, peacefully fell asleep in death Monday, January 9, 2017, at Kimes Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Athens, Ohio. She was born May 7, 1922 in Athens, the daughter of the late Clinton B. and Hazel Mae (McHarg) Oxley. She graduated from Albany High School in Albany, Ohio. Ginny married her late husband of 62 years Byron “Slim” H. Weiss September 30, 1940. They had four beautiful children together. She is survived by daughters Connie (Red) McDuffie of Seville, Florida and Shirley (Woody) Burns of Travelers Rest, South Carolina; son Jerry (Linda) Weiss of Guysville; nieces, nephews, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, Ginny was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Sandra Virginia (Weiss) Herr; brothers Laurence, Harold, Kenneth “Bud” Oxley; sisters Evelyn Oxley and Dorothy “Dot” (Oxley) Lovett. Ginny and Slim were very adventuresome. In the 1960s, Slim obtained his small airplane pilot’s license and along with Ginny, his favorite navigator, they enjoyed flying in Ohio, West Virginia and over the mountains to Florida. In 1967, they sold their home in Boston Heights, Ohio, loaded up their belongings and moved to the Florida Keys. On Summerland Key, they began their new life as owners /operators of a service station and boat rental business. Later when they retired, they traveled extensively in their motor home throughout Mexico and the United States, accompanied by “Bird," their scarlet macaw, whose image is permanently etched on their gravestone. They were especially fond of Alaska and Ginny wrote a note to her sister “Dot” that she was glad that she got to go with them on one of the several trips they made to this beautiful state. Ginny loved music, sweet desserts, oil painting, sweet desserts, watching the Cleveland Indians baseball, and sweet desserts! Her favorite color was yellow. She loved to wear it and decorate with it. Anyone who met Ginny knew that she loved to laugh. “Sunshine” was appropriately her CB radio handle. Ginny faithfully attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and when asked, identified herself as a Jehovah’s Witness. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 14 at Hughes Moquin Funeral Home, 168 Morris Avenue, Athens, James Frye officiating. Burial at the Alexander Cemetery, Albany.
