SHADE – Manuel Charles Grueser, 70, of Shade, died Wednesday evening, November 23, 2016 at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital. Born September 27, 1946 in Meigs County, he was the son of the late Mark and Mary Goett Grueser. He was a graduate of Shade High School and formerly worked for the Athens County Road Department and retired from Southern Ohio Coal Company after 28 years of service. He also was a lifetime farmer and a US Army Veteran serving in Italy. He was a member of the Shade Community Center, the knights of Columbus, and a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pomeroy. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rose; a stepson, Randy (Deborah) Snyder; a step grandson, Allan Snyder; four brothers, Mark (Nancy) Grueser, Max (Barbara) Grueser, Mathew (Florence) Grueser, Malcolm (Peggy) Grueser; and several nieces and nephews. He was always ready to help anyone that needed it and will be greatly missed by friends and family. I know my life has a large space of missing him being around, always ready to fix things that were broken. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Grueser. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pomeroy with Mnsr Donald Horrak officiating. Burial will be in Burson Cemetery where Military services will be conducted by the Athens American Legion Post 21, Athens VFW Post 3477, and the Albany Post 9893.
