Athens – Doris Elaine Poston Dorr, 91, of Athens, passed away Saturday morning, October 15, 2016 at her home on South Canaan Road. Born December 19, 1924 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Waldo and Clara Dent Poston, and loved telling stories of her childhood on their farm in the Scatter Ridge/Stouds Run community. She was a 1942 graduate of Rome Canaan High School and retired from Ohio University, where she was the secretary to the Director of the School of Music. She was a long time member of the Canaanville United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities, but especially as organist for over 50 years; and was also a long time member of the Canaan Grange. She is survived by three daughters, Cheryl (Greg) Wright of The Plains, Linda (Tim) Lairson, and Nancy (Rod) Keirns of Athens; five grandchildren, Kim (Jason) Lathem, Tim (Debbie) Lairson, Tiffany (Sean) Wise, Jason (Rhiannon) Keirns, and Robert Keirns; eleven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Theresa Turrill of Athens, and Sandra Tippie of Westerville. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Dorr; an infant son; a daughter, Jerrie Donnette; and a sister, Jean Anderson. Services will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Lambert officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Presbyterian Cemetery.
