ATHENS – Brian O Phillips, 58, of Athens, died Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Ohio State University James Cancer Center. Born Jun 6, 1958 in Hamilton, he was the son of Priscilla Jane Smith Cress of Hamilton and the late Jack Gray Phillips. He attended Ohio University where he received his master degrees in communication and education and his doctorate in education. He served his community as Chief Information Officer for the College of Osteopathic Medicine where he retired from in 2012 with over 30 years of service. He also was an avid student of civil war history where he participated in Living History events as Leroy Fitch, Commander of the USS Moose. Besides his mother, he was the loving husband of 33 years of Sharon; three children, Rob, Doug and Erin; a grandson, Oliver Gray; and a brother, Brett E. The family wishes to extend an invitation to all of his friends, staff and students to his memorial service on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church, 600 Chestnut Street, Nelsonville at 3:00 PM with Pastor Michael Thomas officiating.
