ATHENS – Wilbur H. Parmiter, 89, of Athens, died early Monday afternoon, February 29, 2016 at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital. Born September 22, 1926 in Cedar Ridge, Colorado, he was the son of the late Earl S. and Lura Bly Beckett Parmiter. He was a graduate of Shade High School and retired from Abex after 35 years of service. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII where he served in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Rolling Hills Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for 56 years and was a member of Athens Paramuthia Lodge 25 F&AM and the Athens American Legion Post 21. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Blanche; two children, Ron (Sondra) Parmiter of Bonita Springs, Florida, Susi (Paul) Davis of Albany; three grandchildren, Scott Parmiter, Kristin Gillum, Shane Vincent; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Marge Tomsic of Anchorage, Alaska; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis, Don, and Clifford Parmiter; two sisters, Helen Bent, and Louise Steige. Services will be Friday at 11:00 AM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Cliff Coleman and John Pauley officiating. Burial will be in Clarks Chapel Cemetery where Military Services will be conducted by Athens American Legion Post 21, Athens VFW Post 3477, and Albany VFW Post 9893. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 5 to 8 PM where Masonic Services will be at 7:45 PM.
