ATHENS – Ruth V. Bayless Ballinger, 93, of Athens, died early Saturday afternoon, December 12, 2015 at The Laurels of Athens. Born January 26, 1922 in Nelsonville, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. “Match” and Nora Gladys Betts Bayless. She was a 1940 graduate of Athens High School and was retired from Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (A & P). She also was a member of The First United Methodist in Athens. Her great joy was her church and being with her friends at the Athens County Senior Center playing euchre. She is survived by a son, Charles W. (Lynn) Ballinger of Scottsdale, AZ; a daughter, Jaynie A. (Steve) Pidcock of Athens; two grandsons, Joshua S. Pidcock of Columbus, and Jed A. (Erica) Pidcock of Covington, LA. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Ballinger; and a sister, Jayne A. Huffman. Per her request, there will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at West Union Street Cemetery with Rev. Robert McDowell officiating.
