George Coe Dearth

George Coe Dearth NEW MARSHFIELD - George “Coe” Dearth, 88, of New Marshfield, died July 18, 2015, at Fairfield Medical Center. He was born on November 7, 1926 in Vinton County as the second oldest of ten. Coe attended Brewer and Prattsville schools and graduated from McArthur High School in 1944. He was a WWII veteran, having served as an Infantry Rifleman and Military Police in the Pacific Theatre from 1944-46. Coe’s first career was at McBee Printing Company, where over 32 years he worked his way from shoveling coal to head of Personnel, and finally as Head of Operations over its three plants. In 1983, he and his wife became majority owner and operator of Russell Nursing Home, providing compassionate care to residents and their families for 29 years. Coe was a founding member of the McBee/Atomic Credit Union and of the Waterloo Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge F&AM #346. He was a member of the Athens Church of Christ and attended Christ Community Wesleyan Church. Coe was an avid sports fan, which included enjoying his grandchildren’s athletic endeavors and following Ohio University athletics with Jan’s Fans. Coe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Donna Jane Beveridge Dearth; four daughters: Karen and Bill Morgan, Lesa and Jeffrey McDaniel, Patsy and David Perry, and Peggy Dearth—all of Athens; eight grandchildren: Kari Van Dyke (Chris) Lehman of Chicago, Lindsay McDaniel of New Marshfield, Kelsy Perry (McKenna Maertens) of Dayton, Second Lieutenant Tyler (Heather) McDaniel of Columbia, SC, Mikala Perry of Athens, Nicholas McDaniel of Athens, Molly (Rick) Johnson of Pickerington, and Todd (Dana) Morgan of North Charleston, SC; and three great-grandchildren. Coe is further survived by seven siblings: Donald Dearth, Dale (Wanita) Dearth, Neil (Joan) Dearth, Cliff (Helen) Dearth, Marilyn Jean Dearth, Eileen Henslee, and Anne (Richard) Hurd; and sister-in-law Karen Dearth. He is preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Bernice Coe Dearth, and two siblings, Ralph Dearth and Ruth Clemens. Masonic Services will be at 4:45pm Tuesday, July 21 at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens. Calling hours will immediately follow from 5-8pm. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Christ Community Wesleyan Church with Rev. Denver Dodrill officiating. Burial will be in New Marshfield Cemetery where Military services will be conducted by the Athens American Legion Post 21, Athens VFW Post 3477 and Albany VFW Post 9893.
