David Edward Smith

THE PLAINS – David Edward Smith, 67, of Cleveland, formerly of The Plains, passed away peacefully in his sleep after an extended illness. He went to be with the Lord on June 2, 2015 at Heros Harber Hospice at the Cleveland VA Hospital. Born April 2, 1948 in Athens County, he was the son of the late Edward and Edna Cartwright Smith. David was a 1968 graduate of Athens High School and served in Vietnam in the US Army and also served in the US Navy and National Guard, all with honorable discharges. He was also a member of The Plains VFW. He is survived by two sisters, Rhea (John) Smith of Cleveland, Patricia (Charles) Fravel of Glouster; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews and lots of family and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Katheryn Chicki. Services will be Monday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Gary Alton officiating. Burial will be in The Plains Cemetery where Miltary services will be conducted by the Athens American Legion Post 21, Athens VFW Post 3477 and the Albany VFW Post 9893.
