Mrs. Helen Ruth Shultz (née Rutter) passed away peacefully at Hickory Creek of Athens on May 28, 2015 at the age of 87. Helen is survived by her sons, Roger (Donna Hatcher) Shultz of Bound Brook, NJ and Randy Shultz of The Plains, Ohio, as well as two grandchildren: Liesl (Nick) Bauer of Fairfield, Ohio, and Nathan (Julie) Shultz of Fowler, Colorado, and great-granddaughter, Parker Dale Bauer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dale Edward Shultz. Helen was born on August 23, 1927 in Logan, Ohio to Nathan Rutter and Elizabeth Matilda (Tillie) Barnes Rutter. She graduated from Logan High School in 1944. She married Dale Shultz on June 14, 1947 and settled down in Logan Ohio, where they welcomed two sons. They moved to Athens in 1962, where Helen later became manager of the textbook department at the Logan Bookstore. Helen was active member of the United Plains Methodist Church, and was President of the United Methodist Women Ministry, leading several fundraising events for the church. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, delicious homemade pies and was known as the “scrubber lady.” She enjoyed gardening, mystery novels and spending time playing euchre with her family. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at The Plains United Methodist Church, followed by internment at Oak Grove Cemetery in Logan, Ohio.
