THE PLAINS – Donald Dwight West, 78, of The Plains, died Tuesday evening, May 19, 2015 at Riverside Methodist Hospital surrounded by family. Born July 10, 1936 in Albany, he was the son of the late Vernon and Virgene Tewskbury West. He was a 1954 graduate of Albany High School and was a US Army Veteran. He was formerly employed at the Athens Police Department, Standard Oil of Ohio as a fuel distributor, assistant superintendant of the state highway garage and retired as manager of the state liquor store in Athens. He was a former member of the Jaycee’s club and a member of the Albany Masonic Lodge and Athens County Shrine Club. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dixie; three sons, Dwight L. (Tricia) West of Carlisle, PA, David (Diana) West of Athens, Daniel (Susan) West of Columbus; eight grandchildren, Allison West, Liana West, Alyson West, Jourdan West (Jake) Manning, Winston West, Dennison West, Cordell West, Ethan West; a great grandson, Jace Manning; and a sister, Barbara Munn of Orlando, FL. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother. Services will be Saturday at 1:00 PM at Christ Community Wesleyan Church with Rev. Denver Dodrill officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens where Military Services will be conducted by Athens American Legion Post 21, Athens VFW Post 3477 and Albany VFW Post 9893.
