Clement Keith Bateman

THE PLAINS – Clement Keith Bateman, 86, of The Plains, passed away Friday Morning, May 8, 2015 at O’Bleness Memorial hospital. Born July 1, 1928 at Longstreth (Nelsonville), he was the son of the late Leonard and Hazel Pruden Bateman. He was a 1948 graduate of Nelsonville High School and was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. After 40 years of service as lineman and dispatcher, he retired from Columbus Southern Electric, now AEP. Keith was a 50 year member of The Plains United Methodist Church, Past Master and lifetime member of Paramuthia Lodge # 25 F & AM of Athens, Past Patron of Athens Chapter # 175 Order of Eastern Star, and a member of Aladdin Shrine Temple in Columbus, Athens County Shrine Club, and the American Legion Post 21 of Athens. Being a great great grandson of Samuel B. Pruden formerly of Harmony Road, Athens, he is a member of the First Families of Athens County and also the Athens County Historical Society and Museum. Keith loved to pheasant hunt and always enjoyed the trips to Nebraska with his best friend, Bill Ross. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth; a daughter and son-in-law, Janeann and Vaughn Snyder of Little Orleans, MD; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Keith and Cynthia Bateman of Racine; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Bessie Miller of Athens; a special niece, Linda Sheets of Albany; and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Claude Bateman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Dorothy Miller; a sister-in-law, Mary “Boots” Miller Dearth; a nephew Killed in Action in Vietnam, Frank H. Miller. Services will be Monday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. David Maze officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens where Military Services will be conducted by the Athens American Legion Post 21, Athens VFW Post 3477, and Albany VFW Post 9893. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 3-6 PM. Masonic services will be Sunday at 2:30 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to, Athens County Shrine Club, P.O. Box 161, Athens, Ohio 45701, for the Shrine Children’s Hospital.
