Phillip L. Zimmerman

ATHENS – Phillip L. Zimmerman, 79, of Athens, died Monday morning, April 13, 2015 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Born February 29, 1936 in Chillicothe, he was the son of the late Wayne Griffith and Mildred Katherine Cotterill Zimmerman. He was a graduate of McClain High School in Greenfield and enlisted in the US Air Force in 1954 serving over 20 years and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He met his wife in England on one of his first assignments and was proud to travel the world with the military, which he dearly loved and enjoyed telling his world travel stories. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Olive Irene Zimmerman; a daughter, Caroline (Jim) Bloom of Athens; two grandsons, Bryce and Adam Gibson of Columbus; two step granddaughters, Alison (Mark) Kohan of Storrs, CT, Hayley (Shaun Simpson) Bloom of Columbus; three step great grandchildren; and a sister, Margie Lovensheimer of Trenton. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonia J. Zimmerman. Memorial graveside services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Violet Cemetery in Pickerington with Fr. Paul Williams officiating. Military Rites will follow conducted by the American Legion and Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
