ALBANY - Karen Elizabeth Hamlin, aged 72 of Albany, passed away Thursday, October, 30, 2014 at her home. Karen was born April 3, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Spencer Higgins and Lillian Everard Higgins. Family, friends, cats, and reading were Karen’s passion. Karen was a retired elementary teacher, teaching for 31 years at The Plains Elementary School. Karen enjoyed spending time with family, traveling with her husband, snuggling with her cats, bird watching, and gathering with her friends, retired co-workers, as part of the Red Hat Society. Karen is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Stephan Hamlin; two daughters, Stephanie (Roy) Ruth of Logan, Stacy (Doug) Skinner of Albany; nine grandchildren, Timothy Smith, Jacob Smith, Dalton Skinner, Olivia Skinner, Christopher Bartlett, Haley Bartlett, Collin Bartlett, Brandon Ruth, Kaitlyn Ruth; a sister, Linda (Jim) Crowe of Rehoboth Beach, DE; brother-in-laws, Charlie (Michelle) Hamlin of Allensville, Zachary (Leah) Hamlin of Albany; many cherished nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and her pets. Karen was preceded in death by a grandson, Cameron Ruth. Karen requested a private burial and funeral at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home.
