THE PLAINS – Donald L. Schoonover, 85, of The Plains, died early Sunday morning, July 6, 2014 at his home. Born February 14, 1929 in Chauncey, he was the son of the late Marion F. and Irene Blackford Schoonover. He lettered in football while attending Chauncey Dover High School and was a retired ironworker with the Local 172. He was a WWII Air Force Veteran stationed in Okinawa and he was a member of the Chauncey AMVETS and the Athens VFW. He is survived by a daughter, Diane (Terry) Bailey of The Plains; two granddaughters, Misty (Rodney) Dunfee of The Plains, Kim (Tony) Gould of Athens; four great grandchildren, Andy and Abby Dunfee, William and Ryan Gould; a sister, Rita Brown; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; a brother, Marion E. Schoonover; and a sister, Shirley Reed. Services will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Pastor Francisco Camacho officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery where Military Services will be conducted by the Athens American Legion Post 21, Athens VFW Post 3477 and the Albany VFW Post 9893.
