ATHENS – Flora Ellen “Flo” Johnson, 84, of Athens, died Saturday morning, June 28, 2014 at Kimes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born February 6, 1930 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Clarence “Dizzy” and Mary Koker Dean. She was a graduate of Ames-Bern High School and was a Life Member of the Athens VFW Post 3477 and a member of the Athens American Legion KT Crossen Post 21. She is survived by two children, Patricia Mayles, Bill (Laura) Johnson; five grandchildren, Jay (Samantha) Winchell, Chrissy (Mike) Funk, Ann (Jerry) Dowler, Billy (Nikita) Johnson, Courtney (Cameron) Reid; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; three brothers, Joe (Eleanor) Dean, Ronnie Dean, Frank (Peggy) Dean; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Dean. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Doc” Johnson; two sisters, Mary Lou Minthorne, Dian Dowler; and a brother, Bob Dean. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kimes of Athens and Hospice of Kimes and all of their staff. Services will be Monday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Canaanville Cemetery.
