THE PLAINS – James Gates, Jr., 48, of The Plains, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. Born July 13, 1965 in Athens, he was the son of Louise Barnes Varner and the late James Gates, Sr. Besides his mother, he is survived by four brothers, Chris, Brian, Ben and Daniel Gates; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Gates; and a stepfather, Jacob Varner. Graveside services will be Thursday at 10:00 AM at Hilltop Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home Wednesday from 4 to 6 PM.
