GUYSVILLE – Byron James, 87, of Guysville, died Tuesday afternoon, April 8, 2014 at Arcadia Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Coolville. Born February 24, 1927 in Chauncey, he was the son of the late Phillip and Elizabeth Mulpas James. He retired from the Athens Mental Health Center after 30 years of service and was a US Navy Veteran. He was an active member of the Lottridge and Shade Community Centers, and a long time member of the Savannah Masonic Lodge in Guysville. He also was an active member of PERI Athens Chapter and a member of the Athens American Legion, Post 21 and a member of the South Canaan Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol “Darlene” James; four children, Wendy (Mark) Shields of Guysville, Jerry (Summea) James, Lynda (George) Tingley of SC, Shirley James of Reedsville; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, William “Bill” (Patricia) James of Guysville; two sisters, Martha (Robert) Antle of Athens, and Janet (Dean) Barry of Logan. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John James; and a sister, Joann Koska.   Services will be Saturday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. Monte McCune officiating. Burial will be in South Canaan Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by Athens American Legion, Post 21, Athens VFW, Post 3477, and Albany VFW, Post 9893.
