Nicholas James Stachler

ATHENS – Sgt. Nicholas James Stachler, 30, of Athens, passed peacefully Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Born April 6, 1983 in Athens, he was the son of Pamela M. McCoy Stachler of Athens and the late James Howard Stachler. Nick was a 2002 graduate of Athens High School and entered the military after high school, rising to the rank of an Airborne Army Ranger and squad leader with the 325th, Alpha Company. Nick was based in Fort Bragg, NC and served three tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom receiving numerous medals of commendation. Nick was also an avid hockey and soccer player enjoying life to the fullest. Besides his mother, he is survived by a sister, Heather (Dan) Anerino of Athens; a brother, Logan Hoon of Athens; a niece and nephew, Lucia and Carter Anerino; nine aunts and uncles; many cousins, dear friends and special extended family, David and Brendon Gall. Services will be Tuesday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. James Lambert officiating. Burial will be in Clark’s Chapel Cemetery where military services will be conducted by Athens American Legion Post 21, Athens VFW 3477, and Albany VFW 9893. A celebration of Nick’s life will be held at The American Legion following the burial from 2:30 pm to 7 PM. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 5 to 8 PM.     In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256, www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
