THE PLAINS - Charles D. Patterson, age 91, of The Plains, passed away Monday morning, March 17, 2014. Born in Athens County, he was the son of the late Wilford C. and Wilda Phillips Patterson. Charley was a l942 graduate of Rome-Canaan High School, Stewart and was in the U.S. Army during WWII serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of Athens AMVETS Post76, Athens American Legion Post 21, and the Athens Masonic Lodge 25 F & AM. He formerly worked at Athens Concrete Co. and later as Custodian for The Athens City Schools. He is survived by his son, James Patterson of Chillicothe; a grandson, Scott (Lindsay)Patterson; a great grandson, Bryce; two step-grandchildren Greg (Heather) Tate and Melissa King; and many other great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Frances Tate; two sisters-in-law, Winifred (Sis) Patterson and Mary Kelly; two nieces Pam Bolduc and Nan Palocko; and a special friend Pauline Gang. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marcella, a brother Floyd (Bo), a step-son John Tate and a step-grandson Michael Tate. Graveside services will be held Saturday March 22, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Clark's Chapel Cemetery in Athens with Rev. William Hixson officiating. Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
