ATHENS — David Wayne Ratliff, 66, of Athens, passed away at Riverside Hospital on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, as the result of a stroke that he suffered earlier. He is survived by his sister, Janice; her husband, Jerry Clevinger; and their children; a brother, Marshall; his wife, Vicki Ratliff; and their daughter, Deena; Beverly and her two children, McKinley and Gabriel; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins in his extended family; and his partner of 41 years, Jim Sands. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. David was in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, and he dealt with nuclear weapons. He served as an Athens Twp. Trustee and an Athens County Commissioner, was chairman of the Athens County Board of Elections, and was a longterm member of the Athens County Democratic Party. His wishes are to be placed in a columbarium in Arlington National Cemetery. His family and friends are encouraged to attend the commitment ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, to be held at a date yet to be determined.
