ATHENS – Robert E. Cunningham, 91, of Athens, died Saturday morning, December 21, 2013 at The Laurels of Athens. Born April 30, 1922 in Athens County, he was the son of the late Blanch Knowlton Cunningham. He was a lifelong resident of the Athens area and was a carpenter working on many Ohio University buildings and area banks and other businesses. He also had built his own home. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII and was in the Normandy Invasion. He was also a 65 year member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local #356 of Marietta. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Cunningham; cousins and many special friends in the Athens Area. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a half sister, Gertrude Douglas. Services will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. Denver Dodrill officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery.
