ATHENS – Charles R. Gaston, 91, of Athens, died Wednesday evening, September 18, 2013 in Albany. Born June 4, 1922 in Athens County, he was the son of the late Arthur C. and Lucy Frost Gaston. He attended Shade High School and graduated from American High School and was a US Army veteran of WWII. He was formerly employed with Columbus and Southern Electric where he worked as a survey crew chief. Also, he was a local pastor and had ministered at several area churches. He is survived by two children, Debra (Walton) Brigman of Rockingham, NC and Roy Gaston of Columbus; four grandchildren, Carrie Gaston (Brandon) Jackson, Jessica Gaston (Jesse) Mathews, Katie Brigman (Chris) Nichols, and Nicholas Gaston; three great grandchildren, Isaac Keeno, Amari Gaston, and Mia Mathews; two siblings, Evelyn Smith of Albany and James Gaston of Carpenter; many nieces and nephews, and close friends, Bill and Diane Beeler. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice Bobo Gaston, his second wife, Geraldine Merrill Gaston, three infant sons, Charles Jr., Daniel and David Gaston, and four brothers, Richard, Byron, William and Paul Gaston. Services will be Sunday at 2:00 pm at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. Denver Dodrill officiating. Burial will be in Grahams Chapel Cemetery where military services will be conducted by the Athens VFW Post 3477, Albany VFW Post 9893, and the American Legion Post 21.
