ATHENS – Murven Alton DeWeese, 84, of Athens died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at The Laurels of Athens. Born April 1, 1928 in Mansfield, he was the son of the late Fred and Irene Gabriel DeWeese. He was a United States Air Force Veteran, a member of the Athens Elks #973, a life time member of The Plains VFW #7174 and DAV CONRATH Bean #37. He was retired from the McBee Company with 40 years of service. He is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Rosalee, whom he married in 1949; his granddaughter, Mary Scarlett Tudor of Orno, Maine; grandsons, Steven DeWeese of Cleveland and Josh DeWeese of Columbus; daughter-in-law, Dorothy DeWeese of The Plains; brother, Dale DeWeese of Waterford, PA; sister, Mary Evans of Mansfield; Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Fred, Howard, George, Herbert and Robert DeWeese; sisters, Donna and Dee Davis; his son, Kerry Wayne; daughter and son-in law, Cathy DeWeese Wakeland and David Wakeland; and adopted daughter, Susan Lee Tudor. Services will be Wednesday at 1:00 pm at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Harbarger and Gary Alton officiating. Burial will be at Zion Cemetery where military services will be conducted by The Athens VFW Post 3477, The Albany VFW Post 9893, and the American Legion Post 21. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm where an Elks service will be observed at 7:00 pm.
