Early on the morning of November 11, 2012, Joan Rae Hysell passed away at Kimes Nursing Home following an extended illness with her daughter Cheri at her side. She was 76. Joan was born in Glouster, Ohio on May 11, 1936 to John and Georgia Mae Emerich Waldeck, both the children of German immigrants. She attended school in Glouster, Ohio where she graduated in 1954. Throughout her life she was active and enjoyed home decorating, crochet, arts and crafts. She was one of the first female real estate agents in ATHENS county, working in this capacity for over 20 years. She later worked at Ames and after their closing in Athens, worked at Elder Beermans and Penneys, Joan is survived by her daughters, Carla (Dave) Kraus of Dayton, Ohio, Cindy (Ron) Vance of Xenia, Ohio, and Cheri Null of Coolville, Ohio; stepson, Danny Hysell of Felton, Delaware; step-mother, Dora Waldeck of Glouster, Ohio; grandchildren, Ryan (Angie) Rose of Middletown, Ohio, Jay Rose of Wahoo, Nebraska, Angela Knight of Vandalia, Ohio, and Richard Knight of West Carrollton, Ohio. She adored her three great grandchildren, Erin Noelle Garren, David Bassman, Josie Knight, all of Vandalia, Ohio; and her two dogs, Taffy and Freckles. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hysell; parents, Georgia and John Waldeck of Glouster, Ohio; uncle, Carl Emerich, ex-husband, Charles McAfooes of Athens, Ohio; and several close friends. Services will be Wednesday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. Chris MacNeal officiating. Burial will be in ATHENS -emory Gardens.
