ATHENS - Betty Jane Hayhurst, 89, of Athens, went home to be with her Lord, May 31, 2012 at the Lindley Inn. Born August 10, 1922 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Charles B. and Stella M. Thomasson Chandler. A lifelong resident of Athens, she graduated in 1940 from ATHENS High School. She was an avid bowler for 65 years and golfer for over 30 years. She loved to watch the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals. She was a charter member of First Baptist Church in Athens. Betty is survived by her three daughters, Diana (Joseph) Rudolph of Albany, Becky (Leonard) Hill of Stewart, and Jill Newman of Jackson; six grandchildren, Kina Shermer of Fayetteville, NC, Joey Rudolph of Alfred, Lisa Hill of Arlington, TX, Jamison Hill of Summerville, GA, Clayton Newman Jr. of Jackson, and Clinton Newman of McArthur; six great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and four step great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Harold David Hayhurst in 1989; three sisters, Ernestine Hoyd, Ruth Corwin and Jewel Brown; four brothers, Bernard, Charles, Paul and Kenneth Chandler. Services will be Tuesday at 1:00 PM at The First Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Difilippo officiating. Burial will be in ATHENS -emory Gardens. Friends may call on Tuesday at the church two hours prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 336 East State Street, Athens, Ohio 45701. Arrangements are by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home.
