<span style="line-height: 115%; font-size: 11pt;"> ATHENS - Helen Mae Douglas Hawk, 91, passed away peacefully February 24, 2012 surrounded by her loving family at Logan Healthcare Center. Helen, born March 28, 1920 at home in Shade, OH to Leo and Gertrude Evans Douglas, was a lifelong resident of Athens. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Heather Ann Wright in 1973, her husband, Paul McLaughlin Hawk in 1984, her son, Larry McLaughlin Hawk in 1990 and five siblings, Mary Lynch, Jean, Herbert, Jim, and Harold Douglas. She is survived by her two daughters, Shirley Smith and Sarah Hawk of Athens, three grandchildren, Tracy Temanson (Brock) of Aldie, VA, Aaron Wright (Hilary) of Davenport, FL and Jessica Wright Stage (Adam) of Logan, OH, three great grandchildren, Amanda Temanson and Marley and Quinn Wright and a sister Mable McClanahan of Shade. At the age of nine, Helen lost her mother and as the eldest, helped raise her six siblings. She went on to graduate from Shade High School where she was a member of the varsity girls basketball team. Helen Douglas married Paul Hawk February 16, 1937 in Athens, OH. Together they raised three children and built a successful real-estate business, Hawk Rentals. Helen was also a charge nurse for fifteen years at the ATHENS -tate Hospital where she cared for those with mental illness. She was extremely proud of her nursing career and of being part of such a historic time and place in Athens. Helen was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene for over sixty years and was an active member of her congregation. She was a Blue-Line Booster for Ohio University Hockey and a season ticket holder for the Ohio University Bobcats basketball team. Helen was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. Helen was a proud member of the ATHENS -ommunity where she shared in the joys of her familychr(39)s accomplishments and took great pride in her daily living and devotion to the Lord. Helen was a regular on the ATHENS -icycle Path circuit. She was a superior quilt maker and homemaker. Helen was proud of her rich connection to the area and to Ohio University where her uncle and three grandchildren graduated. She was a graceful, proper and loving touchstone for her family. She will be dearly missed. Visiting hours will be Monday 4 to 7 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 1pm at the funeral home and with Rev. Joel Harbarger officiating. A graveside service will be held immediately following at ATHENS -emory Gardens.
