THE PLAINS - Jacob L. Varner, 82, of The Plains, died Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Ochr(39)Bleness Memorial Hospital. Born March 22, 1929 in Fairmont, WV, he was the son of the late H. Freeman and Ethel May Tennet Varner. He was a resident of Ohio since age 12. He was a member of the US National Guard, and worked as a tool and die finisher in Columbus for many years, then at the Vanadium tool factory in ATHENS -ntil it shut down. He also was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman.&nbsp; He is survived by three sons, Douglas (Rhonda), Steven (Tina), and Mark (Sherry) Varner all of Nelsonville; five stepsons, James, Christopher, Benjamin, Daniel, and Brian Gates all of The Plains; two sisters, Almeada Barber of Athens, and Ruby (Haven) &nbsp;Van Fossen of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Jacob Lee; stepson, Franklin Gates; three brothers, Jordie, Bernard and Bill Varner; and sister, Magel Mayles. Services will be Thursday at 1 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev King Kelley officiating. Burial will be at Carthage Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM.
