Stanley Smathers

ATHENS - Stanley "Doc& Smathers, 80, of Athens, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on May 31, 2011 at his home. Born January 13, 1931 in Buchtel, he was the son of the late Carl A. and Grace E. Bryson Smathers. He enjoyed square dancing and showing off his orange 1966 International Pickup in parades and car shows. He is survived by his wife, Lois Bolin Galentin Smathers; three sons, Steve Smathers "Evie& of Bartlett, Stan Smathers "Julie& of Spotsylvania, VA, Sam Smathers "Terri& of The Plains; three daughters, Cathy Ryan "Paul& of Barlow, Maria Smathers "Bob& of Kimbolton, Tracy Boyer of Guysville; 20 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Calendine of Athens; and many special nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma; his second wife, Helen; infant twin girls; six brothers, Charlie, Max, Harry, Earl, Carl and John Smathers. Services will be Saturday at 11:00 AM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Pastor John Johnston officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery.
