ATHENS - Jack Burson Friess of Athens, died Friday morning, April 29, 2011 at Ochr(39)Bleness Memorial Hospital. Born March 31, 1922 in Toledo, he was the son of the late Clarence and Gladys Burson Friess. He was a Shade High School graduate and served in the US Army Air Force from 1942 - 1946, where he saw service in the Pacific Theatre. He later received a BS from the University of Wisconsin and a MA from the University of Kentucky. He spent time in various teaching and administrative roles in school systems in Illinois and Ohio. In the latter part of his career, he operated state-licensed driver education schools in Ohio and Wisconsin. Jack also was a life member of the ATHENS -FW Post 3477. He is survived by two sisters, Virginia Lee Nauer and Joan Ruth; a nephew, Daniel Nauer and a niece, Jacqueline Ely and their families. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Jane Friess. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Shade Cemetery with Dean Blackburn officiating. Military services will be conducted by the ATHENS -merican Legion, ATHENS -FW and Albany VFW.
