JACKSONVILLE - Bernice Adeline Goldsberry, age 97 years and 6 months, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2011 at Hickory Creek Nursing Center in The Plains. Bernice was born to Leslie and Minnie Weiss Kittle on Sept. 5, 1913 near Jacksonville, Ohio. She became a member of the Jacksonville Methodist Church during childhood, where she taught Sunday school class and handled various Sunday school duties, including playing piano when needed. Bernice graduated from Chauncey-Dover High School in 1931. She was a lifelong resident of ATHENS county and spent many years in the Shade area, returning to Jacksonville in 1962. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene James; an infant son, Roy Leslie; three sisters, Agnes Johnson Scriber, Garnet Lafollette, Mabel Sayre; and a brother, Orville Kittle. She is survived by two sons, Phillip Eugene (Ellen) Goldsberry, Larry Allen (Sandra) Goldsberry both of Athens, Ohio; two daughters, Rose Marie (Lawrence) VanBibber of Baltimore, Ohio, Margery Joan Holder of Seville, Florida; one grandson, Steve (Danielle) VanBibber of Amanda, Ohio; five granddaughters, Sherri Thompson of Baltimore, Ohio, Tammy (Gary) Bauman of Athens, Ohio, Kris (Jeff) Weber of Lancaster, Ohio, Connie Shifflet of Florida, Angela (Jason) Burtz of Virginia; one sister, MaryLou (Dick) Stalder of Tipp City, Ohio; three great grandsons; five great granddaughters; one great great granddaughter and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Services will be Thursday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Harbarger officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, East of Shade, Ohio.
