ATHENS - Karen Sue Armstrong, 67, nee Embrey, beloved wife of Kenneth, mother of Dylan Elspeth and Heather, grandmother of Andrea and Hannah, passed from this earthly existence Tuesday, January 25, 2011. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Irene and Reginald "Red& Embrey. She is survived by her immediate family, her brother Gary (Nancy) Embrey, and many nieces, grand nieces and nephews. Separated by only fourteen years, she shared a lifelong bond with nephew Kevin, enthusiasts of all sports Cleveland, where she was born and lived the first year of her life. She loved Mozart, Dylan Thomas, the Rolling Stones, and was a proud member of The Not-For-Profit String Band. The first in her family to do so, she earned her bachelorchr(39)s degree in English from Ohio University in 1965 and was passionate about education for women. She took part in the March on Washington and spent the first of her working years as a social worker in Columbus. She leaves many good and old friends in ATHENS county and elsewhere. In accordance with her wishes, no viewing or funeral will be held. A memorial gathering will be announced later. In lieu of flowers, her request was that donations be made to The ATHENS county Visiting Nurses and Hospice, 30 Herrold Avenue, Athens, Ohio 45701, to help extend their caring and indispensible services to those in need.
