ATHENS - Jim Prouty passed away unexpectedly in his sleep Friday night. He was 64. Born in Zanesville, OH, December 4, 1946, Jim was the son of Ray and Jean Prouty. Jim graduated from Zanesville High School and attended Ohio University. He was a founding member of the New Vinton County Frogwhompers and A Touch of Grass new grass bands. He was the founder and owner of O'Hooley's Irish Pub and built the first brew pub in SE Ohio. Among his many attributes, he was an excellent graphic artist and was skilled at building and inlaying musical instruments. He will be fondly remembered as a great grandfather, father, brother, and son. He is survived by his daughters Morgan Rose Prouty and Kelsey Lynn Kraus, his granddaughter Kalli Victoria Rose Jarvis, his brother Bill Prouty, sisters Scoob Lane and Rebecca Van Riper and his mother Jean Prouty. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Services will be Thursday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. Monte McCune officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Liberty Cemetery.
