ATHENS - William K. Stanforth, known to many friends as Pete, 73, of Athens, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, November 21, 2010. Born on February 4, 1937 in Springfield, he was the son of the late Walter L. and Willa Stanforth. He grew up in the Hillsboro area, graduating from Hillsboro High School. He received a degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio University and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He was employed for many years by the engineering firm of EMH&T in ATHENS and later by the Ohio Department of Transportation. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of ATHENS and active in the Sandhill Methodist Church in Willaimstown, WV. He was a member of Paramuthia F&AM, ATHENS -ork Rite, and Aladdin Shrine, as well as Hocking Valley Sportsman Association and the ATHENS -ountry Club, and a US Army Veteran. An avid sportsman, he won national awards in trapshooting and coached youth sports for many years. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and reading. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Connie; a son, Kirby (Joy) of Williamstown, WV; a daughter, Debbie of Myrtle Beach; a sister, Caroline (Don) Patrick of Sardinia; a grandson, William; step grandchildren, James, Jessica, and Joel Wright; nephews, Keith and Troy Patrick; and a niece, Nikki (David) Stanley, and close friends, Charles and Nancy Rue. Memorial services will be Saturday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home, Saturday one hour prior to the service.
