Dick Byrd ATHENS - J.M. "Dick& Byrd died on Monday, Oct, 11, 2010. He is survived by two daughters, Margaret Hoffman, and Patricia Rinella, four grandchildren and two great-grandsons. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the European theater 1942-1945. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan, School of Conservation and Environment. He was employed for 26 years as a forester with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. He initiated the Forestry Program at Hocking College in 1968, and was its first Department Chairman. He was a member and officer of the Society of American Foresters and in 1969 he received their award as the Outstanding Member in Ohio. In 1973 he received the award from the National Wildlife Federation as the Outstanding Conservationist of the Year. He was an avid Duplicate Bridge player, belonging to the ATHENS -uplicate Club and the American Duplicate Bridge Club. Cremation and Burial are provided by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be said at St. Paulchr(39)s Catholic Church on Monday, Nov 1, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in Alexander Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to a charity of choice or to the ATHENS -umane Society or the Friends of the Dog Shelter (ATHENS county) c/o Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home.
