THE PLAINS - Glenn D. Rinehart of The Plains died August 19, 2010, at his home after a long, courageous battle with Parkinsons. He was preceded in death by: his father Robert Ross, his mother Clara Belle Miller Rinehart, his first wife Nellie Hoffman Rinehart, four brothers: Russell, Calvin, Robert (Bob), Dwight Rinehart, and two sisters: Mildrid Fraizer, and infant Betty Rinehart. Glenn is survived by his wife of 36 years, Eleanor: his two step-sons Randy VanDyke (Sheila) and Mark VanDyke (Jenny) of The Plains. Glenn also had eight grandchildren: Ashley (Jeremy) Farley of Jackson, Amy (Brad) Sayre of Jacksonville, Derrick VanDyke of Courtland, Lisa Rhodes (Jason) of Belpre, Heather (Ed) Carter of Nelsonville, and Amy Welch of Beaver, Roger (Missy) Rutter from Athens, and David Mayles of The Plains. Glenn had four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Helen, Betty, and Mary Rinehart from the Mansfield area and numerous nieces and nephews. Glenn was born November 28, 1927, in Morrow Co. in Lexington, OH. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1945. Following high school, Glenn joined the U.S. Marine Corp serving in China at the end of WWII. After his service in the Marines, he was Meat Dept. Manager for A&P Tea Co. in Waukegan, IL, Mansfield, and Athens. After the closing of A&P in Athens, he worked as accountable clerk for ATHENS -.S. Post Office retiring Dec. 1, 1989. Glenn enjoyed traveling with Eleanor with tours to Alaska, Hawaii, China, England twice (to see special friends Joan and Clive Bradbrock of London), France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Mexico, Canada, four cruises, and 48 of the 50 U.S. States. Glenn was a true example of "The Greatest Generation& and was proud of his military service. He continued his civic commitments as life member in The Plains VFW Post #7174, a life member of K T Crossen Post 21 American Legion, China Marine Association, First Marine Davidson Association, DAV, and Combined Color Guard. Glenn was a member of the Nelsonville Elks Lodge #543 and Logan Moose. Services will be held Monday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, with Rev. Joel Harbarger officiating. Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8. Military rites will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard. Burial will be at the Alexander Cemetery.
