John L. Vickers ATHENS - John Leroy "Jack& Vickers, 78, of Athens, died Wednesday morning, May 12, 2010 at his home after a one year battle with cancer. His family was at his bedside. He was born on September 22, 1931 in ATHENS -o the late Jesse K. and M. Catharine Weller Vickers. On December 18, 1955, he married Martha Adams Vickers. He was inducted into the US Army in January 1956 and served with the Big Red "1& at Ft. Riley, Kansas through December 1957. Jack graduated from ATHENS High School in 1949 and received his BS in Pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy in 1955 and did his internship at Clines Pharmacy in Athens. He was a registered pharmacist for 50 years and retired from Medical Center Pharmacy in Athens, and Prescription Shops in ATHENS and Glouster as a partner-owner. Jack is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha; his children, Christine (James) Vaughan of Festus, MO, Diana (Matt) Bunting of Buchtel, OH, Brian M. (Lynn) Vickers of Pickerington, OH; grandchildren, Jason D. (Olivia Phillips) Mehaffey of Springfield, VA, J. David (Ashley) Mehaffey of Centreville, VA, Adam J. (Emily) Bunting, Jared M. (Rebecca) Bunting, Lauren N. Bunting all of Buchtel, OH, Shauna R. Vickers of Albany, OH, Olivia M. Vickers and Jack W. Vickers, both of Pickerington, OH; great grandchildren, Brooklyn Lawson of Buchtel, OH, Jameson D. Mehaffey and Cameron A. "Cami& Mehaffey of Centreville, VA, and Dorothy A. "Addie& Mehaffey of Springfield, VA; and a sister, Thelma A. Vickers, of Deland, FL. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Keith A. Vickers and a granddaughter, Alison N. Bunting. Services will be Saturday at 1:30 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Jo Yeakel officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 5 to 8 PM. Memorial contributions can be made in Jackchr(39)s name to the American Cancer Society or Appalachian Community VNA Hospice.
