ATHENS - William D. Rader, 80, of Athens, passed away Monday, January 11, 2010 at Ochr(39)Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens. He was born July 12, 1929 in Chicago, IL to William and Martha (Neibeaur) Rader Bill was a Professor Emeritus of Economic Education who retired from Ohio University in 1999 with 22 years of service. During his tenure at OU, he also served as Director of the Center for Economic Education, Director of the School of Curriculum and Instruction, and Assistant to the Dean of the College of Education. Prior to coming to OU, he held teaching positions at Florida State University, Northeastern Illinois University, and Morton (IL) College. He authored over 50 professional articles, as well as the textbook <em>Economics and the Free Enterprise System</em>, published in 1982. He received his bachelorchr(39)s and masterchr(39)s degrees in Social Sciences from Northern Illinois University, and his doctorate in Economics/Education from Purdue University. Bill was a long-time member and past-president of the ATHENS -iwanis Club, and served the organization on the state level as a District Lieutenant Governor. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War, and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary L. (Poss) Rader, whom he married on June 22, 1957; a son, Steven (Rhoni) Rader of Portsmouth, and a daughter, Lucy (Rick) Brown of Westerville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a younger brother, James. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at Christ The King Catholic Church with Father Marty Holler officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
