ATHE NS - June Baird (Minton) Blair, 89, of Athens, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at Hickory Creek Nursing Center in The Plains after a long illness. Born on Oct.23, 1920, in Athens, June was the oldest daughter of the late Nona C. and Walter E. Baird. June graduated from ATHENS High School and attended Ohio University. She was a resident of ATHENS -or many years and was employed in the Student Financial Aids Office of Ohio University. She was an active member of the Emblem Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the First Christian Church. Upon her retirement, she moved to Sanford, Florida, where she continued her membership in the American Legion Auxiliary and served as an officer at both the local and statewide level. She returned to the ATHENS -rea in 1993 after the death of her husband. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Minton of the Plains and her granddaughter Jennifer of the Plains. She is also survived by her sister Cayrl Baird Hogsett of Sanford, Florida, and many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Heber L. Minton, and her second husband E.A. (Alec) Blair, and four sisters - Sara Strawn, Gail Seevers, Zoe Hanna, and Jo Rider. Arrangements are by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens. A memorial service will be held at a later date after cremation and interment at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
