George Sheldon

ATHENS - George A. Sheldon, 89, Athens, died Saturday morning, September 26, 2009 at Hickory Creek Nursing Center. Born June 9, 1920 in Athens, he was the son of the late Charles and Margaret Bobo Sheldon. He received the Purple Heart serving in the US Army during WWII where he served in New Guinea and was retired from Columbus and Southern Power Company after 37 years of service. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Merwin and Dorothy Mansfield Sheldon of Sealy, TX; a daughter, Barbara Smith of Athens; three grandchildren, Jacqueline (Lenny) Beverlin of Fort Ashby, WV, Steven Sheldon of Crockett, TX, Karen (Joshua) Shulaw of Wharton; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Phyllis Hanson of Chillicothe. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Marie Sheldon. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 1:00 PM at ATHENS -emory Gardens.
