Marguerite Gooding

ATHENS - Marguerite I. Gooding, 99, of Athens, died Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Hickory Creek Nursing Center. Born Feb. 6, 1910 in Trimble, she was the daughter of the late Grover C. and Iva I. Thompson Snell. She and her late husband had owned and operated Goodingchr(39)s Super Market on Richland Avenue before moving to Lakeland, Florida where she spent 48 years before moving back to ATHENS -hree years ago. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 175 of Athens, a Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls of ATHENS and a member of Lakeland Christian Church in Lakeland, Florida. She is survived by three daughters, Suzanne "George& Ledbetter of Radcliff, Barbara Harris of Athens, Elaine Frank of Grand Prairie, Texas; nine grandchildren, Vicki Brooks Cochran, Stephen, Scott, and Eric Brooks, Terry, and Gregory Harris, Richard, Brent, and Cindy Frank; 13 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Denver Gooding in 1987; a daughter, Joyce Gooding; a grandson, Roger Harris; two brothers, Carroll and Gail Snell. Graveside services will be Sunday at 2:00 PM at Maplewood Cemetery with Pastor William Hixson officiating. Arrangements are by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home.
