ATHENS - Georgia Allen, formerly Georgia Moore, of Athens, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 100 years of age at Hickory Creek Nursing Center. Born January 31, 1909 in Braxton, West Virginia, she was the eldest of six children born to Opha and Mary Myrtle Runion Stover. She raised three children born of her marriage to the late Fred S. Moore. Fred C. Moore and Joseph Moore who preceded her in death, and Mollie Moore who lives in Wilton, CT. Her second husband, Si Allen preceded her in death. Three sisters survive her, Nellie Hartley of Columbus, Leola Guthrie of Athens, and Glenna Collura of Columbus. The family tree includes seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She belonged to the Emblem Club, the Christian Church, and worked for years at Altmanchr(39)s Department Store. Hard-working all the days of her life, many will remember her beautiful handiwork, her love of growing things, and right up to the end, her love of the old church hymns. For 100 years she never gave up. Services will be Saturday at 11:00 AM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with David Barringer officiating. Burial will be in Clarks Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday one hour prior to the service.
