STEWART - John (Jack) Price Winner of Alexandria, Virginia, formerly of Stewart, died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Fairfax Inova Hospital due to a fall at his home. He is preceded in death by his parents Presley Twining Winner and Lois Roslyn Busch Winner, and a sister, Ruth Lois Winner. He is survived by a daughter, Linda Winner Beville of Manassas, Virginia, two granddaughters, Lee (Scott) Carlton of Glendale, California and Kristin Winner Beville of Brookline, Massachusetts, a brother, Presley William Winner of Frankfort, Kentucky and four neices and nephews. Jack grew up in Stewart, Ohio and graduated from Rome Canaan High School in 1933. He was inspired by his high school chemistry teacher to pursue a college education. He graduated from Ohio University in 1937 as its first physics major, along with three other graduates. He was hired by the United States Weather Bureau and took a position in Springfield, Illinois. He took graduate studies in New York and Boston at MIT. Following a job in Baltimore, Maryland, he was transferred to Washington, DC where he eventually became a chief forecaster at Washington National Airport and the Suitland, Maryland Regional office. He retired in 1975 to pursue his passions of gardening and meteorology. He met his wife, Eugenia Carolyn Atkins Winner, at the Washington Weather Bureau office where she was an executive secretary. They were married for over 63 years and known as a couple for their honesty, hard work, intelligent minds and beautiful home. Eugenia died on March 5, 2009 exactly five weeks before her husband after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease. Gravesides services will be Saturday, April 25 at 1:00 PM at the Stewart Cemetery.
