MILLFIELD - Fred Cooper, 86, of Millfield, died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at his home. Born Feb. 15, 1923 in Frozen, WV, he was the son of the late Alva Ernest Cooper and Anna Weekley Cooper McClain. He was an area farmer and construction worker most of his life and was a US Army Veteran of WWII. He was a Life Member of The Plains VFW Post 7174. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Violet; two sons, William (Donna) Cooper of Millfield, Jackie (Carolyn) Cooper of Caldwell; six grandchildren, Melissa (Matt) Woodrum, William (Alison) Cooper, Jr., Craig Cooper, Jackie Cooper, II, Crystal Cooper, Johnnie Cooper; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; a brother, Stephen (Virginia) Cooper of Athens; two special friends, Tom Holdcroft and Robert Keirns. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Irene Cooper; a brother, Hubert Cooper; a sister, Mildred Cooper. Services will be Wednesday at 2:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. Stanley Strode officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery where military services will be conducted by The Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday 5 to 8 PM.
