William K. Brooks William Kenneth Brooks, 78, of The Plains lost his well fought battle with leukemia on February 15, 2009. Bill was born in King Hollow in Vinton County on May 27, 1930. He was a 1949 graduate of Waterloo High School in New Marshfield. Bill retired from Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Co. in 1985 after 35 years service. Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years Wanda Jean (Lightfritz) Brooks; a brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Ruth Brooks of Mineral; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dan and Julie Brooks of Albany and David Brooks of The Plains, and a special "third son" Larry Clark of Mineral, Ohio; two much beloved grandchildren and a granddaughter-in-law; Stacy Lee (Brooks) Dillon of San Antonio, Texas and William H. (Billy) and Jessica Brooks of Albany, Ohio (Billy is a recent combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom); and two nieces, Karen Weaver and Marla Brooks. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Ira Emmett and Grace (Clark) Brooks and three infant siblings; Letha, Harold and Rheta. Bill was an extraordinarily skilled woodworker and craftsman and many friends and family members were recipients of his clever and beautiful creations. He was also an avid bowler and was a member of the Senior Citizen Bowling League at Rollerbowl Lanes in ATHENS -or many years. Bill proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953. He was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association and a Lifetime Member of ATHENS -merican Legion Post 21. Friends and family may pay their respects at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home at 168 Morris Ave. in ATHENS -n Wednesday Feb. 18th from 5 PM to 8 PM. The funeral is Thursday Feb. 19th at 1:00 PM.
