ATHENS - William R. "Bill& Carsey, 73, of Athens, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 20, 2009 at his home. Born Jan. 3, 1936 in Athens, he was the son of the late William Leo and Othella Jane McKibben Carsey. He was a 1954 graduate of Rome Canaan High School and was a former Canaan Township Trustee. He was in the US Army for 14 years, including two tours in Vietnam where he received two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. He was a life member and past Commander of the ATHENS -FW post 3477, ATHENS -AV post 37, ATHENS -mVets post 76, and a member of the ATHENS -merican Legion post 21. He also was past All State Post Commander of the VFW. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jean A.; two sons, Leo (Sherri) Carsey of Athens, Jeff (Delilah) Carsey of Nelsonville; three grandchildren, Caitlynn, Collin, Caroline; three brothers, Floyd (Debbie) Carsey of Athens, Ben (Freda) Carsey of Athens, John (Phyllis) Carsey of The Plains; two sisters, Donna (Dennis) Facemyer of Albany, Dianna Carsey of Guysville; special friends, Jerry and Donna Storer, Jerry, John, and Charlene Elgin. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Dan, Bob, and Chuck. Services will be Friday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Dave Cogar officiating. Burial will be in South Canaan Cemetery where military services will conducted by ATHENS -FW, Albany VFW, and ATHENS -merican Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. The family would like to thank ATHENS -ommunity Hospice.
