Brian Cornwell

Brian Arthur Cornwell, 48, of Athens, passed away on Tuesday November 18th at his home. Born March 12, 1960 in Athens, he is survived by his wife of 27 years, Connie; a son, Eric Cornwell, of Athens; brother and sister-in-law Michael Cornwell and Sherri Jo St. John of Skokie, Illinois; sister and brother-in-law Amy and Dave Calvert and nieces Katie and Molly Calvert of Lewis Center, Ohio; an aunt, Betty Cornwell, of Portsmouth, Virginia; and a cousin, Morgan Cornwell, of New Orleans, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Arthur and Janice Kay Cornwell, and a son, Arthur John Cornwell. Brian was a 1978 graduate of ATHENS High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in cartography from Ohio University in 1995. He was an instructor at Hocking College in the Geographic Information Systems program for 8 years. In addition, he was a highly respected carpenter for most of his life, building and remodeling homes in the ATHENS -rea. He was active in boy scouts, orienteering and hockey in his youth. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed kayaking, hiking and camping. He enjoyed and played good instrumental music, namely Bluegrass and Jazz, and was also a skilled luthier. He had much geographical knowledge and was good at correctly answering questions aired on Jeopardy!, but never wanted to be on the show. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate his life on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 from 2-5 pm at the Dairy Barn, 8000 Dairy Lane, Athens.
