ATHENS - John J. Mullins, 79, former teacher, principal and beloved husband and father, died of natural causes on August 16, 2008. Born July 7th, 1929, in Webster County, WV, to the late John E. and Lottie P. Mullins, John Junior graduated from Glenville State Teachers College and later earned his Masterchr(39)s of Education from Ohio University. John was proud of his Boy Scouting accomplishments, earning the rank of Life Scout. Mr. Mullins touched the lives of countless children in his more than 30 years of elementary education. He taught school in Shawnee, Albany, New Marshfield, Shade, and finished his career in Diana, WV. John was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he selflessly served the Lord and His people for 30 years. His passion for genealogy filled his later years. Married to Inez Connolly Mullins since 1954, the couple has six children, John Dwight (J.D.) and his wife Lillie; Betsy Graham and her children, Ian and Ben; James; Peter and his wife Laura and their daughter Bella; Colin and his wife Kaylee; and Joel and his wife, Heather and their children Jack and Grace. John is also survived by his four sisters, Willajean Waybright, Mildred Nichols, Burdena Coakley, and Karen Carpenter. Services will be held Thursday, August 21st, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 7795 Lemaster Rd, The Plains, Ohio 45780. Visitation from 10:00 a.m, Service at 11:00 a.m. The Family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home.
