ATHENS - Jordie R. Varner of Ducan Falls formerly of Athens, passed away at 11:25 PM on June 17, 2008 at Genesis Health Care System in Zanesville after lengthy illness. He was born April 27, 1934 in Mongalia County, West Virginia to the late Ethel and Freeman Varner. Jordie was a truck driver and has been retired since 1996. He is survived by his wife Martha (Douglas) Varner; four children; a son Jody Lynn Varner of Philo, 3 daughters, Debrah Sue Sudduth of Blue Rock, Pamela Kaye Brown of Philo, Tamela Rae Simeral of Zanesville, six grandchildren Jody Lynn Varner, Adrianna Mahalia Rochelle Varner, Austin Tyrel Varner, Samuel Sudduth III, Jordie Richard Sudduth, Tyler Matthew Brown; 1 great granddaughter Natalie Nicole Sudduth; a brother Jacob Varner of the Plains, 2 sisters Almeda Barber of Athens, Ruby VanFossen of LeCanto, Florida; a beloved sister-in-law Janet Varner of Amesville and numerous nieces and nephews. Jordie resided in Duncan Falls since 1961 where he was a beloved member of the community. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Bernard Varner and a sister, Magel Jean Mayles. Services will be Saturday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Dave Cogar officiating. Burial will be in Burlingham Cemetery.
