Kate Walburn

ATHENS - Kate Walburn, 97, of Athens, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Kimes Nursing and Rehab Center. Born March 6, 1911 in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Penny and Berdette Clark Wilson. She was the first and only female to serve as ATHENS -ownship Trustee serving from 1962 to 1989. She was one of the founders of The Plains Volunteer Fire Dept, and worked with The Plains and Richland Avenue Fire Departments to help provide the best protection for the township. After her retirement she continued to operate the Burr Oak Kream Kone in Bishopville. She was a member of The ATHENS -irst United Methodist Church for 78 years and ATHENS -merican Legion. She is survived by a son, Terry (Marie) Walburn of Pickerington; seven grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Walburn; a son, Joseph O. Walburn; several brothers and sisters. Services will be Friday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. Mary Jo Yeakel officiating.
